The film was directed by Gareth Edwards from a screenplay by David Koepp and was released theatrically on July 2, 2025.

Who Dies in Jurassic World Rebirth?

The major deaths in Jurassic World Rebirth include an InGen employee in the opening, Bobby Atwater, Nina, LeClerc, Martin Krebs, and the rescue-helicopter crew. Duncan Kincaid appears to sacrifice himself while distracting the D-Rex, but he survives and reunites with Zora, Henry, and the Delgado family before they leave the island.

Among the main 2025 expedition, the named casualties are Bobby, Nina, LeClerc, and Martin Krebs. The movie also establishes the D-Rex’s danger in the prologue by having the escaped mutant kill an InGen worker, while the final act adds the helicopter crew to the body count.

The key twist is that Duncan is not one of those deaths, despite the film deliberately framing his last stand as a sacrifice.

Jurassic World Rebirth Ending Explained

The Jurassic World Rebirth ending begins after Zora Bennett, Dr. Henry Loomis, Duncan Kincaid, and the Delgado family finally reunite at the abandoned InGen complex on Île Saint-Hubert.

By this point, the expedition has successfully collected biomaterial from the Mosasaurus, Titanosaurus, and Quetzalcoatlus. Those samples could potentially be used to develop a major cardiovascular treatment, making the case containing them extremely valuable.

Martin Krebs has other priorities. After Teresa exposes what he did earlier on the boat, Krebs turns on the group, threatens them with a gun, takes the samples, and attempts to escape alone.

His plan collapses when the island’s mutated creatures attack.

The group is forced through the abandoned facility while Mutadons hunt them through the complex. At the same time, the rescue helicopter arrives—but the Distortus rex, better known as the D-Rex, attacks and destroys it. The pilots are killed, eliminating what was supposed to be the survivors’ easiest route off the island.

Krebs then runs directly into the creature he has been trying to escape.

The D-Rex catches and devours him, allowing Zora to recover the case containing the three biomaterial samples. Krebs’ death also completes the movie’s most obvious moral reversal: the man most interested in controlling the potentially life-saving discovery for corporate profit does not get to leave the island with it.

The remaining survivors reach a boat, but the D-Rex is still close enough to stop them from escaping.

That is when Duncan makes what appears to be his final decision.

Does Duncan Die in Jurassic World Rebirth?

No. Duncan Kincaid does not die in Jurassic World Rebirth.

Duncan takes a flare and deliberately draws the D-Rex away from the others. Zora, Henry, Reuben, Teresa, Isabella, and Xavier use the distraction to launch the boat and escape.

The movie initially presents the moment as Duncan’s sacrifice. He disappears while facing the D-Rex, and the others leave believing that he may have given his life to save them.

Then another flare appears.

The group realizes Duncan survived the encounter and turns back to retrieve him. He joins the others, meaning all three central new leads—Zora, Duncan, and Henry—make it out alive.

The movie does not provide a detailed on-screen explanation of exactly how Duncan escapes the D-Rex. In a CinemaBlend interview, Mahershala Ali suggested that Duncan may have used the water to evade the creature after drawing it away with the flare, but that is the actor’s interpretation rather than an explicit explanation in the film.

Interestingly, Duncan originally was supposed to die.

Director Gareth Edwards told /Film that the filmmakers shot versions in which Duncan lived and died. The original version of the story had him completing the sacrifice, but the survival ending ultimately became the version used in the finished movie.

That explains why the sequence feels so convincingly final before the movie reveals that he is still alive.

Jurassic World Rebirth Deaths Explained

The Jurassic World Rebirth deaths are spread across the movie rather than concentrated entirely in the finale.

The InGen worker

The first death happens during the prologue at the abandoned research facility years before the main story.

A seemingly minor accident involving a discarded candy wrapper contributes to a security failure that allows the Distortus rex to escape containment. An InGen employee is then killed during the chaos, establishing why the genetically altered creature is so dangerous.

Bobby Atwater

Bobby Atwater, played by Ed Skrein, dies during the expedition’s violent encounter with the Mosasaurus and Spinosaurus.

After the team obtains the Mosasaurus sample, the situation quickly becomes uncontrollable. Spinosaurus join the attack on Duncan’s boat, and Bobby is killed during the assault.

Nina

Nina survives the initial chaos on the boat, but not the aftermath.

Once the damaged vessel reaches the island, a Spinosaurus attacks and kills her near the shore. Her death further reduces Duncan’s experienced crew before the mission has even collected all three samples.

LeClerc

LeClerc dies while helping Zora and Henry obtain the third biomaterial sample from a Quetzalcoatlus egg.

When an adult Quetzalcoatlus returns to the nest, LeClerc draws the creature’s attention away from Zora and Henry. The animal catches him and kills him before the rest of the team can save him.

Martin Krebs

Martin Krebs is the final major human character to die.

After betraying the others and attempting to leave with the DNA samples, Krebs crosses paths with the D-Rex during the final escape. The creature kills him, and Zora recovers the samples afterward.

The rescue-helicopter crew

The helicopter that arrives to evacuate the survivors never gets the chance.

The D-Rex destroys the aircraft during the final attack, killing its crew and forcing the surviving characters to find another way off the island.

Who Survives Jurassic World Rebirth?

The main survivors are:

  • Zora Bennett
  • Duncan Kincaid
  • Dr. Henry Loomis
  • Reuben Delgado
  • Teresa Delgado
  • Isabella Delgado
  • Xavier Dobbs

Isabella’s small Aquilops companion, Dolores, also escapes with the group.

This makes Rebirth less tragic than its final act initially suggests. Duncan’s apparent death is reversed, the entire Delgado family survives, and the three characters positioned as the franchise’s new central trio all make it home.

What Happens to the D-Rex?

The D-Rex does not die at the end of Jurassic World Rebirth.

There is no final T-Rex-versus-D-Rex battle and no moment where the heroes definitively kill the creature.

Instead, Duncan uses the flare to lure the Distortus rex away from the escaping group. That distraction creates enough time for the others to launch the boat and get away. Duncan then somehow escapes the creature himself and signals his friends with another flare.

The D-Rex is therefore still alive on Île Saint-Hubert when the movie ends.

Director Gareth Edwards at one stage considered having a Tyrannosaurus rex appear during the climax and fight the Distortus rex, but the idea was rejected because previous Jurassic movies had already relied on large dinosaur-versus-dinosaur finales.

Leaving the D-Rex alive also makes the ending slightly more unsettling. The humans survive, but they have not restored control over the island. Île Saint-Hubert remains an ecosystem filled with experimental animals that were abandoned because even their creators could not safely manage them.

What Does the Jurassic World Rebirth Ending Mean?

The ending is ultimately less about defeating the D-Rex than about deciding who should benefit from the scientific discovery that brought everyone to the island.

At the beginning of the mission, the dinosaur biomaterial has enormous commercial value. ParkerGenix wants access to genetic material that could lead to a breakthrough treatment for cardiovascular disease.

But after everything they survive, Zora and Henry choose another path.

With Krebs dead and the samples back in their possession, they agree to make the discovery openly available rather than allowing one pharmaceutical company to control it. The mission that began as a dangerous commercial operation therefore ends with the surviving characters choosing public access over exclusivity.

That decision reinforces one of the Jurassic franchise’s oldest ideas: scientific power is not automatically the problem. The danger comes from believing that something can be owned, controlled, or exploited simply because humans have learned how to create or capture it.

Krebs represents that impulse. He looks at the samples primarily as an asset.

Henry sees their scientific potential, while Zora gradually becomes willing to protect that potential from corporate control.

Duncan’s final act provides the emotional version of the same argument. Instead of protecting the valuable samples at the expense of other people, he risks himself to save the group.

The ending therefore contrasts possession with responsibility.

And unlike many Jurassic finales, victory does not come from humans proving they are stronger than the dinosaur. The D-Rex survives. The humans succeed because they escape it and finally make a better choice about what to do with the science they recovered.

Does Jurassic World Rebirth Have a Post-Credit Scene?

Jurassic World Rebirth has no mid-credits or post-credits story scene.

Does the Ending Set Up Jurassic World Rebirth 2?

The ending itself does not contain a traditional sequel hook.

There is no post-credit tease, no surprise returning character, and no cliffhanger announcing the next mission. David Koepp said around the film’s release that the priority was making Rebirth work as its own movie rather than forcing sequel setup into the story.

However, circumstances have changed since the movie opened in 2025.

Deadline reported on August 6, 2026 that Gareth Edwards would not return as director, David Koepp had written the latest draft, and Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali were expected to return. Those are reported development plans, rather than a confirmed release schedule.

That means Rebirth did not need to explicitly advertise a sequel for its surviving characters to continue.

There are several natural story threads available: the future of Zora, Duncan, and Henry, the consequences of making the dinosaur-derived treatment openly available, Dolores living outside the island, and the fact that the D-Rex remains alive on Île Saint-Hubert.

None of those threads is presented as a cliffhanger in the film itself, but all could be revisited.
