Toy Story 5 recorded the biggest opening weekend in the franchise’s history, according to Disney’s June 21, 2026 announcement. The studio estimated a $312 million worldwide debut, including $160 million domestically. Those figures describe the opening weekend, rather than the film’s eventual total.
By October 9, 2026, Box Office Mojo listed worldwide earnings of approximately $1.148 billion. This guide separates the initial estimates, subsequently reported domestic opening and cumulative theatrical revenue.
Toy Story 5 Box Office Totals
The following figures were listed on Box Office Mojo’s Toy Story 5 release-group page when checked on October 9, 2026. Domestic means the United States and Canada; worldwide combines domestic and international ticket sales.
| Measure | Reported amount |
|---|---|
| Domestic opening weekend | $159,677,837 |
| Domestic total | $480,294,461 |
| International total | $667,738,000 |
| Worldwide total | $1,148,032,461 |
These are reported box office grosses. They are not the amount Disney retains after exhibitors’ shares, and they do not establish net profit.
Which Opening Records Did Toy Story 5 Set?
In its June 21 opening-weekend report, Disney described the estimated debut as the franchise’s largest opening domestically, internationally and worldwide.
Disney also identified it as the biggest global opening of 2026 at that time and the second-largest domestic animated opening, behind Incredibles 2 (2018). The year-to-date claim belongs to the date of that report.
These are specific opening-weekend comparisons. They should not be read as a claim that the film broke every animated box office record or became the highest-grossing film of all time.
Why the $160 Million Figure Differs from the Database
The studio’s Sunday report used an estimated $160 million domestic debut. Box Office Mojo subsequently recorded $159,677,837 for the June 19–21 weekend—approximately $159.7 million.
The difference reflects an estimate versus a subsequently reported figure. It does not mean the earlier report referred to a separate weekend.
The estimated $312 million global opening should also remain labelled as an opening estimate. It cannot be substituted for the cumulative worldwide gross.
Opening Weekend and the Longer Theatrical Run
Toy Story 5 opened in North American theaters on June 19, 2026. Its opening weekend gives one measure of initial ticket demand, while its cumulative total covers the longer theatrical run.
According to Box Office Mojo’s weekend chart, its second domestic weekend brought in $70,829,028, a decline of about 55.6% from the opening.
By the October 9 check, the domestic total was roughly three times its opening weekend. That comparison describes revenue accumulation; it does not identify why individual audiences chose to attend.
How It Compares with the Previous Films
The Numbers’ franchise table lists a $120,908,065 domestic opening for Toy Story 4 and $110,307,189 for Toy Story 3. Both are below the reported $159,677,837 opening for the fifth film.
The same table lists worldwide totals of approximately $1.071 billion for Toy Story 4 and $1.069 billion for Toy Story 3. The fifth film’s reported total of about $1.148 billion is above those figures.
These comparisons use nominal ticket revenue. They do not adjust for changes in ticket prices or translate directly into attendance.
The Story and Returning Voice Cast
The film puts Woody, Buzz, Jessie and their companions in conflict with electronics as Bonnie’s playtime changes. Lilypad, a tablet device, is central to that premise.
Tom Hanks voices Woody, Tim Allen voices Buzz Lightyear and Joan Cusack voices Jessie. Greta Lee voices Lilypad.

How to Read the Figures
An opening weekend, a year-to-date ranking and a cumulative total answer different questions. The opening indicates the first weekend’s revenue; the total measures the reported theatrical run; a ranking depends on its category and date.
Box office trackers can revise international reporting and may differ slightly in their totals. Use one named source for a quoted figure and retain the date on which it was checked.
Claims about record-breaking performance should identify the comparison, such as franchise opening weekend, rather than rely on a broad superlative.
